Residential Treatment Centers for Troubled Teens in Utah
A residential treatment center for troubled teens is a live-in mental health care facility that provides individualized support and therapy to mentally and behaviorally struggling teenage boys and girls. Generally speaking, any top-tier caliber teen treatment center is staffed by a high staff to child ratio who are experienced in working with troubled youth.
While at the residential treatment center, the type of treatment programs in which a child will participate will greatly depend on their individual needs. These individualized needs are assessed by experts when the teenage boy or girl first arrives at the center so the team can then decide on the most effective treatment program for that individual.
No Residential Treatment Centers Nearby? No Problem
While there may not be a residential treatment center nearby, there are many out-of-state opportunities for parents from certain areas of the US. to utilize. In fact, most students who live on the premises of a residential treatment center usually reside far away from the actual treatment facility, itself.
Parents who choose to send their child to a residential treatment center outside of Utah can use one of the many troubled teen transport services that any prospective treatment center will most likely recommend. These transport services are professionally run by well-trained teen transport agents who typically come in pairs and deliver students to all corners of the nation on a near-daily basis.

Family First Adolescent Services’ Humble Beginnings (Our Story)
Family First Adolescent Services started in 2014 as an adolescent and young adult IOP. Initially, we started Family First in a small office. We knew that the ethics of the industry we loved had significantly deteriorated so we decided to not bill a single tab to insurance companies, but instead use our time learning how to operate a business being paid for treatment provided.
When Family First started, we had no financial backing, no money to draw from, and spent the first year working solely with the outpatient population.
In 2015, we decided to open an extended care program for adolescent males who were completing treatment. We reinvested the money earned from the IOP and started a 6 bed extended care.
We decided that based on the acuity of our clientele (even after primary treatment) and the apparent lack of progress made by "successfully discharged" clients, that we would shift our program to being the primary treatment. Slowly, we have grown to a 20-bed facility with two housing locations and an office as well as an expert staff made up of forty members.
Family First Caters to Families from Utah
Family First is not a region-specific treatment program. In other words, while we may not be located in Utah, we cater to those living within the state of Utah. Like most RTC's, almost all of our students come from out-of-state. In fact, parents from Utah may be surprised to find out that most troubled teen experts actually suggest that parents send their child to a facility that is as far away from their home as possible.
Why is Distance from Home so Important?
Sending your child to a program that is far removed from Utah, ensures that your child will also be far removed from their negative peer groups and dysfunctional home life. It is only after this distance is met that a troubled teen can completely focus on their therapeutic, behavioral, and even academic rehabilitation.
